The Next Inevitable Phase
As we near the seventh-month mark there is something new every day.
His vocabulary is expanding and he very clearly is using Dada for Zac and Mama for me. When he is looking in the mirror and we tell him “kiss the baby” he leans forward all slobber mouth on his reflection. One of his favorite bedtime books is “Baby Tiger’s Jungle Adventure.” We ask him to find baby tiger on each page and he pulls Zebra’s mane and Lion’s beard, finds baby Tiger in the bushes by Crocodile, under Peacock’s feathers. In the house he looks around when we ask “Where is Kitty?”
He claps his hands, bangs toys together to make a noise, puts small toys inside bigger toys. The aquarium toy on the side of his crib has a big button for bubbly music and a small lever that spins a starfish. He loves flicking the lever with a single finger. Very interested in things that spin.
He can’t balance food on a spoon yet but loves holding it and putting it in his mouth. He feeds himself baby-sized crunchies and has almost mastered the thumb-and-forefinger pickup.
He dances to music or when we start singing. There is a lot of action around the knee area. He crawls like a champ, pulls himself up at his destination, let’s go with one hand and reaches for things while standing. His balance is fantastic.
I was just getting the hang of the 4-6 month baby activities and now I’m living with this tiny person. He has more complicated feelings now, and gets frustrated when we don’t catch on. He is intensely interested when we show him baby signs and I think I have seen him make the sign for “daddy” twice now.
I have the feeling things are about to start happening. Fast. We are entering the next inevitable phase.
