It’s a Wise Child
There’s a difference between what the book says and what proud parents imagine when it comes to their child’s vocabulary. For instance, around six months we should be getting some vowel-consonant combinations like “Ah-goo.” Well he has been saying that for months, and even went bilingual with “agua!” once.
The first time he repeated “Leh leh leh” I was convinced he was trying to say his name and spent hours saying “Lex! Leh-ecks!” at him.
Now he says all kinds of things. Mostly along the lines of “blah blah blah da dee do.” He hasn’t seemed to mean anything in particular. But tonight he looked right at the cat and said “kitty” very distinctly. Well, more like “kee-e” but still. Clearly he saw her and said it with meaning. Not like when he sees a book and says “Guh!” and we say “Yes Lexi, books are good. Guh-ood!”
So I spent an hour saying “kitty, kitty, kitteh, kit-teh, keeee…” to him. He didn’t say it again. But in bed he was playing with his daddy and said “da da.” Big grin. “Da da da da da.” He is so advanced. Loves his daddy.
Tomorrow I am spending all day teaching him “Momma.”
