Crankypants Junior
I’m so lucky to have married The Baby Whisperer. Usually when our little guy is fussy the solution is a few minutes on Daddy’s shoulder and he’s sleeping like a baby. Today was the exception.
Nothing worked. Rocking, walking, swaying, swaddling, jiggling, even dancing with Daddy didn’t help. Lights on, lights off, Christmas tree lights and mood lighting didn’t seem to matter. We tried ear drops, gas drops, baby Tylenol. Momma’s milk straight from the tap, and in bottles chilled and warmed. We tried with the Boppy and without, different blankets, different chairs. Music, background noise, whispering, silence.
Of course we had tried saying “shh-shh” to him in soothing there-there tones, but what finally got Crankypants Junior to quiet down and was the Shush application for the iPhone, by Red Sweater Software. It is a white noise generator, and it works like a charm. It can’t solve everything (if the problem is that he needs to burp or have his diaper changed you are on your own.) But if he is tired and hungry and just too wound up to relax, this is the app you need. Start up Shush and he goes all limp noodle, takes the warm bottle, lets me touch his cheek with a soft blanket and rock him to sleep.
