We think he's very advanced.

A Spoonful of Sugar

The baby is taking Cefdinir (generic for Omnicef) for his ear infection again, and also homeopathic ear drops.

We took him to the doctor just to see about his cough. It doesn’t seem too bad but has been lingering and sounding moist instead of dry. He had also been tugging at his right ear, which was infected last time. There was no odor from it, and he didn’t act like it was painful. Mostly he tugged at it when he was tired, and we have read that sleepy babies sometimes ear tug, so it might be nothing. But still, better for someone who has been to med school to decide.

The pediatrician asked if he was in daycare, and pronounced the cough as RSV. “They all have it at daycare now.” And she was right, his classroom has posted a notice of a confirmed case of RSV.

She checked his right ear and saw a little fluid, but no infection. I asked about ear wax. He’s been having little landslides of ear jellybeans from the left ear occasionally, but none from his right. She took a look, curetted out some wax from the left, took another look and found infection. I was really surprised, he hasn’t given us any sign that the left ear bothered him at all.

He was a trooper the whole visit. Didn’t cry at the invasive thermometer or the ear curette, but when she checked his throat he was not pleased with the tongue depressor, and yelled at her for that.

So now we are on day 2 of 10 of antibiotics. He takes 4 ml by mouth once a day. Last time we struggled with it in the mornings, now we are giving of at bedtime. It comes with a measuring syringe, and it works best with two adults. One to squirt it out in four equal measures, one to hold the baby and lift him up to swallow after each dollop. He was asleep on my shoulder when we came upstairs tonight and we woke him a little giving him the meds, but he sacked out again immediately. Much easier than giving it to him in the morning.
