World Traveler

Baby already had stamps in his passport from Bahamas and England, so for our next vacay we chose Belize, with a sidetrip to Guatamala. My friend Maura found http://www.cavesbranch.com/ and we booked a week in the jungle treehouse.

We flew RIC > MIA > BZE. Lex is a great air traveler. He loves takeoff and landing. Go, go, go! Fast, fast, fast! Up, up, up! Wheee! He nurses and sleeps through the flight. When we arrived in Belize City he was still asleep when we parked at the gate and passengers were disembarking. I woke him up and told him we were in Belize and he whipped his head around to look out the window, face pressed against the glass.

Immigration, luggage, customs. Private transfer to the jungle lodge near the capital city Belmopan. Hour and a half scenic drive through lush sparsely populated countryside. Only 300,000 people live in Belize, maybe a third in Belize City. They have several times that amount of cruise ship visitors each year.

Check in at the lodge with chips and salsa and local Belikin beer. Buffet-style multi-course dinner. Up a tiki-torch lined walkway to our treehouse. Outdoor jungle shower area. Screened porch with bunkbeds, sitting area, pull out couch. Tree growing up through the floor. Upper level with bathroom and indoor shower, all tiled with natural stone. Sink with stone basin. Rough hewn wood shelves. King size bed. Towels made into kissing swans, decorated with fresh ferns. Easily the nicest room I have ever stayed in. We fell asleep listening to a chorus of frogs.
