A Year of Lex

We always thought he was very advanced. At everything except growing hair. And now it looks like he is Internet-famous at an early age too.

We have been posting his every moment to Flickr, YouTube, Twitter, our Tumblr blogs. So our distant relatives and far-flung friends can enjoy every minute of this happy boy as he grows.

The best video so far is the composite of his daily pictures. Just a sort of fast happy look at our sweetpea going from plucked chicken to chubby little boy over the course of the year. As one of our friends happens to write for Gizmodo.com puts it:

PHOTOGRAPHY Baby’s First Trip Around the Sun in Two Minutes By Jesus Diaz, 2:00 PM on Sat Aug 8 2009

My dear friend Zac Bir had a great idea: Photograph his son Alexander every single day since he was born, creating this beautiful one-year time-lapse calendar. Watching him grow so happy makes me happy too. Look for the special days.

So when this posted over the weekend, Lex’s birthday video had about 150 views on YouTube. Friends and family. Half an hour later it doubled. 300 views. Soon it was 5,000. We called the grandparents. Explained that getting featured on Gizmodo is like getting your picture on the front page of the paper. We took screenshots for the digital baby book. 12,000 views. 23,000 views.

And by Sunday night 42,000 views. We told Lex he was an Internet celebrity but he still had to take a bath and go to bed. He slept like a champ and had cereal and blueberries for breakfast.

He was sensitive in the morning. We think he is cutting more teeth. At work I was busy and in meetings. By the time I checked in this afternoon there were 62,000 views on YouTube and a cover story on parentdish.com. Dadda was giving interviews and fielding emails from television stations.

I left early to volunteer at Conrad House. Trying to raise the Bug with the spirit of service. He was glad to see me when I got home. Dinner, bath, bedtime. Check YouTube. Up to 73,312 views.

Sweet dreams little rock star. Don’t forget your Momma when you make it big.
