Vacation Remembered
Friday we checked in to our suite on Paradise Island and went to the Predator Lagoon tunnel at Atlantis.
The Atlantis complex is described as a mind-boggling aquarium with all the fun of a water park and all the subtlety of Vegas. It is astounding. The baby loved seeing the fish flying overhead like birds. There are sharks, manta rays, moray eels, Posiedon’s kiddie pool and a waterslide leap of faith from a Mayan Temple.
The restaurant prices are equally unbelievable. Entrees for $70 a person. I guess not. We walked across the exit bridge and ate most of our meals Friday and Saturday on little Potter’s Cay, where fresh local seafood is prepared in a row of shanties. The establishment we chose offered conch fritters 10 for $2, local Kalik beers for $3 and $5-6 for conch salad- raw fresh conch, diced fine with some cucumbers, onion, tomato and marinated in juice from the sour orange. We watched it being meticulously prepared. Also homemade French fries. Delicious. And the cheapest meal so far.
Baby tries some of everything and makes friends with everyone at the bar.
On Sunday the Bug was a trooper for the trip home. Even when the last leg of our flight was rerouted to Laguardia and we had to hustle to the shuttle bus leaving from JFK. We made the connection and were home nearly on time. Our luggage was delivered at 3 in the morning and the loud knocking didn’t even wake our exhausted little guy. He has so much new information to process, he has been sleeping like a champ.
With Monday off for Memorial Day the first week back to work was short. The weekend even shorter. And now we are unpacked, clothes are washed, put away. Time to book the next getaway. A long weekend in Vermont for Fathers Day.
