Orange Hill
The beach is right down the hill. The sand is soft and white, the sea is blue and green. We are the only people in sight. We build sandcastles and dip our toes in the water.
After morning nap we catch a jitney bus into town. The cruise ships tower over the pink buildings. Baby tries pigeon peas and rice for lunch at the Bahamian Kitchen. We tour the library, go on the roof for a stunning view of town.
The scale of the map makes of hard to judge distances. Looking for the semi-submersible, we hike out of town a ways, end up on Mermaid Wharf. Clearly an industrial area, marked with signs to keep out. The people are so friendly here, we weren’t nervous getting directions from a man with a machete. Walking back we were hot and tired. Bug fell asleep on my shoulder.
In town we caught the bus back to our hotel west of town. There were 5 rows of 3 seats, but by flipping seats open in the aisle and around the driver we were able to pack in about 30 people.
A dip in the pool, a rinse in the shower. The bug had a big day and went down for second afternoon nap. He might be out for the night. We had a big day and napped for over an hour ourselves.
It’s all part of the adventure little bug.
