Tikal
Our first full day in Belize we were up at 5am on the long drive to Guatamala. We went through customs and immigration again, changed US dollars for Quetzals at an exchange rate of about 8 to 1. Stopped for breakfast of black beans on tortillas with crema fresca. Baby was delighted to see a turkey up close, his fervent desire since Thanksgiving. Gobble gobble!
Drove onto Tikal National Park...

Baby already had stamps in his passport from Bahamas and England, so for our next vacay we chose Belize, with a sidetrip to Guatamala. My friend Maura found http://www.cavesbranch.com/ and we booked a week in the jungle treehouse.
We flew RIC > MIA > BZE. Lex is a great air traveler. He loves takeoff and landing. Go, go, go! Fast, fast, fast! Up, up, up! Wheee! He nurses and sleeps through...
One Two Five
Lex counts. For a long time it was just “one, two!” and that was enough. But not anymore. Holding up his fingers. Five. Pointing at his toes. Five.
His teacher at school wrote home that when she showed him numerals he recognized 1, 2 and 5. I felt sure he knew 3 and 4 too but just wasn’t saying. That same night he took apart his foam mat and brought me the cut-out 4....
