Argentina - Thursday
Thanksgiving we left Iguazu Falls and flew back to Buenos Aires. A series of events left Lex pants-less on the flight, but we made a sort of sarong for him from my pashmina.
We only had one day left, so I had carefully packed all our clean clothes in a single suitcase. It was sad when that one (with pants for Lex!) did not arrive. The luggage counter guy was very nice and radioed out to the...
Brazil -Wednesday
Another stamp in the passport. Iguaçu means Big Water, and the view from the Brazil side is fantastic. More of a panorama, with a single hiking trail ending at the base of the Devil’s Throat.
Back in Argentina by cocktail hour. I am obsessed with the olives at the Feria. Stuffed with meat, cheese, garlic, hearts of palm, everything imaginable. We feast on olives, wine and cheese, then take...
Argentina - Tuesday
Iguazu Falls was spectacular. We hiked the lower cataracts first, then took a nap in the shade by the side of the trail with Coatis and giant lizards scampering around us.
After nap, a boat ride into the waterfalls. Lex wore an enormous lifejacket and was a trooper when we got repeatedly soaked. Literally in to the waterfalls. Amazing ride.
We changed into dry clothes and hiked past an old...
Argentina - Monday
On Monday we left the Estancia and drove 60km on dirt roads, seeing wild Rhea plus a plethora of birds and animals we had previously spotted. Then another 60km on paved roads back to Posadas and the bus station.
We rode in the very front seats on the top floor of the double decker bus. About five hours. Billboards advertising different brands of Mate.
Arrived at the Orchideas. Swam in the...
Argentina - Sunday
Early morning tour of the wetlands by boat with José. My gauchito is up for it. Feeling better.
Capybara. A dozen black Caiman. Birds of all descriptions.
I look at the water and the ripples in the clouds and think about whether his eye will fully recover. I don’t yet know how this ends.
But it is worth it. For all the risk and inconvenience of travel, it is far more dangerous not to...
Argentina - Saturday
Looking at photos from Temaikèn, I see that Friday I was not able to get Lex out of his jammies top, but layered on a short sleeve shirt.
Saturday we left early from the hotel for the airport, with Lex in full Buzz Lightyear jammies. He drank chocolate milk (the first sign of appetite he had all week), and had a good time taking photos of airplanes from the departure lounge.
The trip to...
Argentina - Friday
By Friday morning Lex was still tender but agreed to go down to breakfast. We kept our momentum going for a walk to Plaza Italia and a bus adventure to Temaikèn. Pro tip: not all busses on line 60 going to Escobar stop at Temaikèn. You want to catch a bus that says “semi-rapido.”
And so it is. Cruising along the highway but stopping at every exit, we made our way semi-rapido for an...
